The Alexander Technique is a method of movement re-education. An Alexander Teacher works with students by practicing habitual activities, like moving from sitting to standing, and also individual activities, like dancing, playing an instrument, working at a computer, or golf. Using gentle hands and words, a teacher will guide a student through the release of excess tension so that any activity becomes easier, more enjoyable, and free from injury. The side effects of learning the Technique include: less pain, more mobility, and more energy.
The Technique can be highly effective for:
People with chronic pain, such as lower back pain, TMD, carpal tunnel, and joint pain
People dealing with performance anxiety and/or the physical demands of their profession
People who are recovering from an injury
People with Parkinson's
People with bodies
The Alexander Technique is non-manipulative. It is not painful because the teacher’s hands are always gentle. Most people report feeling more relaxed and more comfortable in their bodies after their first lesson.
